Contraction for Empty Repositioning. The movement of emptycontainers.

Endorsement

A legal signature usually placed on the reverse of a draft,signifies transfer of rights from the holder to another party.

Entry

Customs documents required to clear an import shipment for entryinto the general commerce of a country.

Equalization

A monetary allowance to the customer for picking up ordelivering at a point other than the destination shown on the bill of lading.This provision is covered by tariff publication.

Equipment InterchangeReceipt (EIR)

A document transferring a container from one carrier to anotheror to/from a terminal.

Contraction for Shippers Export Declaration.

Exception

Notations made when the cargo is received at the carriersterminal or loaded aboard a vessel. They show any irregularities in packagingor actual or suspected damage to the cargo. Exceptions are then noted on thebill of lading.

EXIM Bank

Export Import Bank of theUnited States.An independent U.S.Government Agency which facilitates exports of U.S. goods by providing loanguarantees and insurance for repayment of bank provided export credit.

Expiry Date

Issued in connection with documents such as letters of credittariffs etc. to advise that stated provisions will expire at a certain time.

Export

A shipment transported out of a country.

Export Declaration

A government document declaring designated goods to be shippedout of the country. To be completed by the exporter and filed with the U.S.Government.

Export License

A government document which permits the Licensee to engage inthe export of designated goods to certain destinations.

Export Permit

A legal document that is necessary for the export of goods controlled by thegovernment of Canada specifically goods included on the Export Control List(see above) or goods destined for countries on the Area Control List.

Export Quotas

Specific restrictions or ceilings imposed by an exporting country on the valueor volume of certain exports to protect domestic producers and consumers fromtemporary shortages of the goods affected or to bolster their prices in worldmarkets.

Export Rate

A rate published on traffic moving from an interior point to aport for transshipment to a foreign country.

Express B/L

Non negotiable B/L where there are no paper copies printed of originals.
